Jane Bennett

Jane is Wirral born and bred. In fact, her mum’s family can be traced back to living on the Wirral for more than 600 years. After leaving school, Jane trained as a youth worker and worked in the North End of Birkenhead in youth clubs and play schemes before going to university as a young single mum to follow her creative calling.
Having had a successful career running post 16 Art Education programmes for over 30 years, Jane recently retired and returned to Wirral. Jane’s teaching career began at Wirral Metropolitan College. After 10 years she moved to Southport College before finishing her career in Rochdale. She now has her own art practice with a space in Arena Studios, Liverpool.
A passionate advocate for adult education, Jane has overseen and been involved with many community projects and groups. For 4 years she was involved in a collaboration between the Green Wave school in Kolkata, India, facilitating field trips for students to work with the children of the school on creative projects.
During this time Jane helped establish a 4-year research programme with the help of the British Council investigating Art Education in Europe. The project linked Art schools in Venice, Athens, Spain, Bratislava, Latvia and Lithuania.
Jane has also worked as a freelance designer creating Illustration work and textile design for BBC
publications, Habitat, Mothercare and others.
